What Makes you Tick? Taking care of my family, and reading to my boys.

Blog Giveaway from Etsy Featured Seller: waterbucks.etsy.com

Meet waterbucks.etsy.com, a truly talented jeweler!

What Makes you Tick?
People; cultural diversity, rituals, traditions, and romantic sentimentalism. I dig history and how we hold on to it through little insignificant bobbles and scraps of paper. And I'm fascinated by how we can turn something so simple into something so important simply by attaching our emotions to it.

How did you get interested in what you create?
Rocks are amazing. Look at any gemstone and consider were it came from... From the dirt! From in the ground right under our feet! Who hasn't ever bent down to pocket a stone from the beach or mountain top? Throughout history rulers and religious leaders have used stones based on their metaphysical properties, shamans prescribed them for healing, warriors attached them to shields for protection and women wore them for fertility... There is a lot of energy in stones and I enjoy working with them.

What is the last book you read?
All About Lulu written by Jonathan Evison. It's a wonderful weekend read full of humor and coming of age philosophy. The author is a talented local writer. But I must admit that most of my reading these days are of blogs. I'm a bit of a blog addict. haahahahha.

If we looked in your refrigerator right now, what would we see?
Sprouted red quinoa salad from the co-op with pear and macadamia nuts. Yum! I'm working out more lately and as a vegetarian have to be creative in getting extra protein. All sprouts are loaded with protein. I have sprouts coming out my ears these days. lol

What is your favorite quote?
Lately there's been a lot of talk about change and whether on a grand scale or just on my personal bathroom scale this quote keeps coming to the front of my mind to remind me of my responsibility in the process....
"Things do not change; we change." Henry David Thoreau

--------------------------------------------------

Waterbucks has also graciously agreed to host a giveaway of a GORGEOUS pendant!

A value of $34.50, you could win this pendant!

This beautiful pendant is currently in a contest. If you'd like a chance to win this item or other great prizes stay tuned for web link to the contest... :)

Warm, earthen, and classic. This picture jasper wheel has wonderful patterns of dark brown swirling through beige. A smokey glass bead adorns the bail. A carved crazy agate leaf floats below a leopard jasper bead. Sterling silver with leather necklace.

Picture jasper is said to hold hidden messages in the pictures formed by the designs in the rock. A stone that is grounding and considered an "earth stone" renewing global awareness.

REVERSIBLE

Pendant measures 5 1/8"h by 1 5/8"w

Comes with 16" natural genuine leather necklace

-------------------------------------------------------------

Now, you want to win this contest? Here is how!

1. Visit waterbucks.etsy.com

Blog Giveaway from Etsy Featured Seller: Meet Silja of 5erg.etsy.com

Meet Silja of 5erg.etsy.com, a very talented artist indeed!

How did you get interested in what you create?
Someone left me in a room with paper and a pencil. What was wrong with them? I am struggling with my drawing habit ever since :)

What is the last book you read?
I have one in the half way. It is a historical novel about a man who escaped a train to prison camp in the World War 2.
It is "Metsõun" by Arnold Õun.

If we looked in your refrigerator right now, what would we see?
Margarine, 3 eggs, jar of cranberries and salmon. It looks like not much in our house is here to pile up in the fridge. Hm.

What is your favorite quote?
I can't say it here! Maybe I can. No I can't. Well, it is from a comedy called Orgazmo and it involves unicorns.
I also love Cartman and Dwight Schrute quotes.

--------------------------------------------------

As part of her feature, Silja has GRACIOUSLY agreed to give away a set of 2 oil color art cards!

Etsy Featured Seller...Luludesign.etsy.com!

Meet Kathy Crabbe of Lulu Design ~ Art for the Elf in You!

A little about Kathy...
I am currently forty-three years old and have been guided by the psychic realms since childhood. I have kept a Dream Journal since I was thirteen and my dreams and intuition have always been a great source of insight for me. I have been drawing, studying and analyzing people from a very young age and I can provide anyone with a myriad of personality tests such as: (my favorite) Astrology, the Enneagram, the Kiersey Temperament Sorter and the Clifton StrengthsFinder.
I have been very privileged to live in Southern California for the last fifteen years and especially to live in Laguna Beach. I have connected with old, old oaks, elfin forests, flower fairies and a red headed mermaid. I have also received many healings and teachings from these wonderful teachers:
Astrology - Steven Forrest, Patty Davidson
Celtic Shamanism - Misha Maheo
Channelling/Toning - Krista Kirkwood
Herbalism - Susun Weed (Green Witch Program)
Life Coaching - Jennifer Lee (Artizen Coaching)
Meditation - Taught by one of Sri Chinmoy's trained teachers named OM
Mediumship & Psychometry: Adam Higgs (Six month weekly training)
Psychic Readings and Tarot - Lauren Michaels
Reiki Level One – Jenny “Star” Wright
Stone/Chakra/Sound Healing - Terri Darby,
Katrina Raphael's Crystal Academy, Level One Certification - Taught by Coral Karnaze
Therapeutic Touch - Joyce Fournier RN
Yoga - Amanollah Ghahraman, Atma Kalsa (plus ten years private yoga practise)
Most importantly I do not label myself or my work with any particular title or religious affiliation because I do not seek to limit myself. I merely keep my senses open and practice what I preach with an open heart and a request for divine guidance for the good of all concerned. Blessed Be!
-----------------------------------------------
Instead of doing a traditional interview with the artist, Kathy prepared a reading for me herself! Let me be clear...I don't know anything about soul readings or astrology. Not because I'm not interested and not because I don't "believe"...simply because I have never taken the time to find out about it....
I was quite touched that Kathy spent the time doing this for me. You can tell that she is thoughtful yet intentional in her art and readings. While I won't reveal anything from the reading specifically, I can tell you that I took to heart the message...It certainly resonates specifically to some things our family has been faced with of late and I believe there is something to take away from it!
Thanks so much to Kathy for the reading. I sincerely appreciate it...You have given me a lot to think about!

Meet Marlene, shop owner of shopdavinia.etsy.com!

What makes you tick?
I have been looking for more health friendly products. When I create my soaps, I look for ingredients that are natural and good for the skin. I do not add SLS, SLES, propolyne glycol, or any other detergents to my soaps. Many soaps on the shelves of grocery stores today are filled with chemicals and detergents which dry and irritate skin. Many of the skin problems people have can be resolved just by using a natural product. So, I created a line of soaps to do just that, meet the needs of people who want to use a more natural product and lessen skin irritations.

What makes you create?
I come up with ideas for my soaps and lip balms fairly randomly. I do like to create more foodsy scents but I am also trying to create products that are floral and citrusy as well. When I think of designs I use things I see around me to inspire how the soap will look when it is finished. I love to create intricate soaps, that you will not see anywhere else. I like them to look decorative, but still be a perfectly usable bar of soap.

If we looked in your refrigerator right now, what would we see?
Lots of cans of pop, left over turkey meatloaf, fruit juice for my daughter, cheese, condiments, flavored coffee creamer (can’t live without it!), bottles of water, eggs, and beer for my husband.

What is the last book you read?
Hmm, I have to admit I am not much of a reader. Just don’t have the patients. But, I would have to say I have been looking through a book called “How To Teach Your Baby to Read” by Glenn and Janet Doman. It is an interesting book about teaching you baby to read well before the preschool age.

What is your favorite quote?
Everyone was born with two ends. One is used for sitting. The other for thinking. Success in life depends upon which one you use the most. Heads you win. Tails you lose.

I have been involved in early childhood education for over 30 years, as a teacher for over 20 years, and as an administrator the past 11. Married to a terrific guy for 35 years, we are the parents of a married-with-kids daughter who is a speech therapist, and a son in graduate school for forensic accounting (there is an end in sight for college tuition!!)

I grew up on a farm in the country in beautiful southwest Georgia, with horses, cows, pigs, the works! My grandmothers and mother all made sure I knew how to do many things by hand, including cooking, baking and canning vegetables (somehow I don’t have time for that like I should!) I have always enjoyed crafting, sewing, smocking, cross stitch, painting, etc.

When my granddaughter was born, I began making hairclips and bows for her. I used to make them for my daughter when she was a child, and am enjoying utilizing some new techniques I have learned. After so many people asked where she got her bows and clips, I decided to branch out and make them for others as well. That led to my online shop at etsy, where I have been selling for about a year and a half. My user name for my online shop just had to be happygrandma, because that is exactly what I am! My two grandchildren are such a joy to me! I have become one of those people I used to run and hide from when they started with a new cute story about their grandkids…..anybody want to see some cute pictures??

My favorite purchase on etsy....hmmm...aren't they all my favorite, lol, but I would have to say it was one of my early purchases for a handmade purse that I am still carrying! It has been to the beach several times, out to Lake Tahoe, and has carried everthing from diapers to food to crafting supplies.

I do not currently have a blog, although it does look tempting to start one. I just have so much time for all my addictive pasttimes!! I did recently start to "twitter", though and it is fun! http://twitter.com/happygrandma402

I love Etsy because it gives me an outlet for my hairbows but also because I have gotten to know some fantastic ladies (and gentlemen) from all over the world! I have seen people come together for support both financially and emotionally for those in need, and have been lifted by many of the heartwarming stories I have read.

My personality in 5 words?
wacky, passionate, optimistic, humorous, outgoing
There are lots more I'm sure others would use!!
