Using Blog Sticky Posts to promote new products, gift guides and special events!

A few months ago, I blogged about how to create *sticky posts* on your blogger blog!
Let's take it to another level!
Over the holidays, I first used this idea and created a "holiday gift guide"...I created simple, attractive buttons that targeted specific areas of my online shops and turned it into a sticky post so that it is the FIRST thing that readers see!
You could create sticky posts for new products, specials or anything else you want your readers to see FIRST!
You can see my sticky buttons above...I am using them to highlight my newly created Valentine's Day items!
-----------------------------------------------
  1. Using picnik, I created simple little buttons to use as the graphics for my sticky post! I used the editing features under *create* to add the hearts and to make the round shapes and to add the text.
  2. I then uploaded the images to my free photobucket account. Once you upload your graphics to your photobucket account, you can copy/paste the html code it gives you for each individual graphic.
  3. Then, open your blogger blog up. Go to customize. Click on add page element, click on add html code. Copy the graphic html code into that box that opens.Click on save.
Now, you are ready to do the sticky post component! Here is how you do that...

Step1: Connect to your Blogger account and click "Layout" in the "Dashboard."

Step2: Select "Add a Page Element" and choose the function you want to use as your "sticky post." For example, if you would like to announce an ongoing contest, you can choose "Text" and enter the details. "Text" allows you to add and edit HTML. By selecting "HTML/JavaScript," you also can choose to link to a previously written, archived post that gives the written details of the contest.

Step3: Complete the "Add a Page Element" template, click and drag the item to the "Blog Posts" section.

Step4: Click "Preview" to make sure the sticky post appears at the top of the page. Then click "Save."

  • You can create more than one "sticky post."
  • Using a "sticky post" is an effective way to drive traffic to additional sites you may have, such as another blog or online retail shop.
  • “Sticky posts" have no expiration date. To remove a "sticky post," simply click "Remove Page Element."

Hi!

I am going to be hosting blog giveaways for two weeks to celebrate Valentine's Day 2009!

My blog: http://heatherknitzdesigns.blogspot.com

In addition to my traditional promotions, advertising and other means of driving traffic to my blog, the giveaways will also be submitted to:

*All of the blog giveaways will take place from Monday, January 19th, 2009- Friday, February 6th, 2009. *

How will the giveaways work?

*First, there will be multiple giveaways going on at one time! Therefore, that will drive in traffic even more because it is a collaboration! The more chances to win, the more entries we will receive:)

*The giveaways will be randomly chosen using the random generator at random.org!

*If you want to participate, you will decide what YOU want to giveaway! It can be something small or as valuable as you want! There is no monetary requirement with this giveaway:) Once you decide on the item, you will send me the pics or links of the item so that I can post it when I do your blog entry!

*Each giveaway blog entry on my blog will have:
your store banner, a short interview with links (of course) to your stores and online venues as well as the description of the item that you are giving away!

*Each giveaway will require participants to:
visit your specified online store, comment on the blog post about your shop or their favorite items!

So, does it sound like you want to participate?
Just leave me the following information then:

What is Cottage Style...I just learned and it's on Lollishops!

From the lollishops blog...
Cottage Style embraces the time-worn; encourages and evokes nostalgia. Items that have been neglected or forgotten, are given a new emphasis. What used to be defined as "Shabby Chic" has evolved into a completely different shift of focus. Furniture is no longer purposed to be "shabby" it is shabby.
Chipped paint, white-washed, stained, tarnished, antiqued textures are complimented with soft shades of petal pink, custard yellow, minty green and baby blue.
The OLD is mixed in with the NEW.
I have discovered that lovers of Cottage Style develop their own, personal flavor to highlight their signature designs--
It could be hand glittered doves...
Dusty pearls...
Velvet ribbon...
Paper Flowers...
Rhinestones...
Buttons...
China Dolls...
Sepia tone portraits...

Some fabulous examples of COTTAGE STYLE you can find on Lollishops.com!

*my lollipop hair clips are in the mosaic...yeah:))) They are also on Lollishops!

Happy Learning! Heather
